ELIZABETH CONGDON

My paintings are emotional responses to life, both observed and remembered. I've evolved my style by painting series of certain landscapes or flowers/objects which have become iconic to me. As I progress from painting to painting, I move from vision to revision to re-envision. In this way I hope to imbue my work with more passion and meaning.

French Impressionism, and the Flemish and Italian Renaissance are my biggest inspirations. Having trained classically, I start each painting on the neutral tone of linen, primed with transparent rabbit skin glue.  From there I paint with saturated color, letting the purity of color describe both light and emotion with a mix of classicism, impressionism, and vibrancy.
